The history of porcelain dates back to 7th or 8th century China. The first known porcelain objects were found in the province of Henan in China and date back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The first porcelain was called "shuīdùn" or "luótáng" and was made from kaolin clay and potassium salts.

In the 10th century, a type of porcelain called "celadon porcelain" was developed, which was made from a different type of clay and had a characteristic green-blue color. In the 12th century, a type of "white porcelain" began to be produced in the Jiangxi province of China, which became highly valued throughout China and later abroad.

Porcelain was first introduced to Europe in the 16th century, when Portuguese merchant Jorge Álvares brought the first samples from China. In the 17th century, porcelain production began in Germany, England, and France.
